美國醫學作家協會 (The American Medical Writers Association)、歐洲醫學作家協會(European Medical Writers Association)及醫學出版專業國際學會 (International Society for Medical Publication Professionals)針對掠奪性期刊發表了共同聲明，這份共同聲明綜合了多份掠奪性期刊的Guideline後提出11點指針，幫助研究者辨別掠奪性期刊，其中有幾點可以多注意一下，是目前中文指南中比較少提到的幾點：
- promises of unrealistically quick peer review, or no information about the process
- article processing charges that are not transparent (and may be either very high or very low) or are payable on submission (that is, not dependent on the outcome of peer review)
- a large stable of journals that have been started very recently and/or that contain no or few published articles, or are of obviously poor quality
- an editorial board consisting of members from outside the specialty or outside the country in which the journal is published
